Practitioner Programme testimonials

Our programme is transformational... but don't take our word for it! Here's what our learners had to say.

Examples of other project topics

All of our learners select projects that they are close to: something that they are passionate about, and want to improve. Here are snapshots of more bioremediation and restoration projects.

How Nature Manages Nitrogen

A restorative mining engineer, Justin Walls investigated how nitrogen (a common water pollutant) can be regulated through nature. The Wakkerstroom Vlei has proven to be very effective at naturally removing nitrogen as the water flows through the wetland - a proven method that is a more efficient and cost effective way in which to breakdown nitrogen.

The Sargassum Challenge

Michellie Hernandez, a Medical Doctor, worked on solving the challenge of overpopulation of sargassum in the Dominican Republic. This has been affecting the local ecosystem as well as the local population's health and economy that relies heavily on tourism and fishing. She needed to find proper ways to collect the sargassum without eroding the sand and beaches.

Designing Flood-Proof Solutions for River Restoration

A Biomimicry Practitioner, who wishes to remain anonymous, began with the challenge: How might we design a nature-inspired floating wetland system that can withstand the force and volume of waste and floodwater, enabling an NGO to continue restoring the river without frequent damage or failure?

Note: some Practitioners choose to keep their projects confidential due to their client requests.

A great project makes
a great learning journey

The #1 question we get asked is: "How do I apply biomimicry?" and our answer is always: "Start with a project that you are passionate about".

But, finding the right project and challenge to work on can be tough. So we created the Biomimicry Project Playbook micro-course to guide you through this process, and empower you to make your Practitioner Programme or next project a success.

This micro-course contains short videos,
a downloadable template workbook, and a pdf handbook. Everything you need to get you started on your journey.

Ready to become a Biomimicry practitioner?

This is where the magic starts:
Outside of your comfort zone, but within the realm of possibility.

Committing to investing in yourself can be difficult: time, money, having the courage to design things differently. BUT. You know, deep down, that this is where you need to be, and this is what you need to be doing.

You're talented. Nature is genius. Together, you're an unstoppable force for good.

Hi, I'm Ali. Let's chat.

Ready? Start where you are.

Whether you are looking to upgrade your design portfolio, land your first job, or take your career to the next level - the best place to start is the here and now. And we'll meet you where you are at.

Biomimicry is a practice: the more you do it, the better you'll get.

Here are some questions that learners often have at this stage:

"Do I need to be good at drawing?"

No. As long as you can convey an idea, that's good enough for us! If you are already skilled at drawing or renders, that's great, but it's definitely not a requirement.

"Do I need to know biology?"

No. As long as you are curious and willing to dive into the wonders of nature, you'll be just fine! We're here to guide you, every step of the way – from the wow to the how.

"Do I need a project to start with?"

Yes. This is a project-based learning experience. Nothing coming to mind yet? Don't worry. You can use our handy Project Playbook micro-course to help you ideate, select and define a project topic that sets you up for success.
