Executive Director of the Biomimicry Institute

"We are thrilled to support this powerful online course and hope to reach many thousands of educators. Focusing on students is the key to creating a new generation of innovators that are inspired by, and connected to, the natural world."

Tebogo Masoga

Mining Technologist, Exxaro

"I could not keep up with my mind as it was busy realizing that the way I have been seeing the world is being drastically expanded at that moment, and I have no other option but to ingress to a whole new high level of awareness. Claire is an inspiring speaker who is passionate about exploring the genius of nature and how it inspires extraordinary innovation; not only new technologies, but also innovative thinking, systems redesign, regeneration beyond sustainability and so much more."

Prof. Lyal White

Senior Director, Johannesburg Business School

"Biomimicry is an essential for thinking afresh in an ever changing world. Under exponential change, toward goals of sustainability in the era of 4IR, it provides an alternative to accepted paradigms that are increasingly less applicable and this will help companies think about their business differently, for lasting impact and, yes, ongoing profitability."

Clementine Kganyago

Environmental Scientist

"The changes that are taking place all around us may soon overwhelm our current ways of thinking, which is why we need Biomimicry. I have never been more excited to integrate disciplines together into something new, and I look forward to growing my knowledge in this field. Through the Biomimicry courses I have learnt that translation is an essential tool that unlocks the significance of systems thinking - from nature to design applications - which will allow us to adapt in an ever-changing society."

We believe in thinking outside.

Our global challenges can't be solved with the same kind of thinking that created them. They also can't be solved by waiting for someone else to do it. What we need is a change of perspective. By looking to nature for inspiration, thousands of individuals and organisations around the world are redefining the way that we think, design and do business – to be more resilient, adaptive and regenerative. Nature is everywhere, and we believe that anyone should be able to learn from it and transform their part of the world too.

Who should learn biomimicry?

Anyone who feels that we should be improving the way we design our products, processes and systems, and most of all those who thirst for a more sustainable (regenerative and resilient) world. And anyone who is keen to learn from the most experienced teacher out there – nature.

In our case studies, we feature people who are evolving the fields of: product design, life-friendly chemistry, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, land rehabilitation, materials engineering, architecture, city planning, civil engineering, water management, hygiene and medicine, industrial design, building materials, business models – and so many more.

Africa's first online biomimicry course

We are very proud that we've been able to establish our own roots here in South Africa, and continue to be deeply inspired by the biomimicry pioneer species in the Northern hemisphere who have taught us so much. This course is presented by  Claire Janisch (B.Pro) – the founder of Biomimicry South Africa.

The course was designed by Claire Janisch and Jessica Berliner (B.Practitioner and Communication designer). ReWild Africa provided the beautiful feature films and ongoing business support.
