Biomimicry Coaching Cards
Learner: Nadezhda Belousova
Key words: Scale-up, startup, coaching, organisational lifecycle
*Final presentation excerpt*
All layouts below copyright Nadezhda Belousova.
As a business consultant who specialises in helping start-ups and scale-ups to navigate their changes, Nadezhda is no stranger to the need for growth. 90% of businesses fail within their first year. Nature offers us strategies for strategic adaptations through different growth and change patterns. Nadezhda is the mastermind who is putting these together.
It all starts with understanding the context:
And each context comes with its own functions:
For each function, there are a range of inspiring biological models with strategies for change and survival.
Nadezhda went through the enormous task of synthesising all of these learnings, and built out a prototype of a set of coaching cards that she can use to help organisations navigate and adapt.
She also put together an overview of the accompanying website.

Sustainable Tourism
Learner: Esmeralda Tenorio
Key words: Carbon footprint, tourism, scale up, algorithm, social impact
*Final presentation excerpt*
All layouts copyright Esmeralda Tenorio.
Esmeralda, the owner of her own tourism company, asked:
"How do we sustainably scale the business operations of a travel company for long-term success? Furthermore, how can the company minimize the negative social impact and carbon footprint of tourism?"
Her direction was to follow a holistic approach, understanding how impacts can be made on multiple fronts.
Inspired by protein synthesis, and how this effective process might help to encode other algorithms.
One of the main challenges was to lower travellers' carbon footprint, and for this, a lot of data ranking and organising was necessary.
Esmerelda looked at a number of different biological organisms, and the process of ecological succession was inspiration for understanding the impact of tourists in local communities.
Knowing that no business plan is ever going to success without co-operative relationships, Esmerelda incorporated this into her design.
Her next steps were to code this up and integrate the algorithm into her tourism service.

Her primary functions emerged as:
- Nurture morphogenic field awareness
- Nurture morphogenic field coherence
- Lead collectively: make decisions based on context & situation
- Co-create and share value
